General
What is a chute blocker?
A chute blocker is a lawn mower accessory that allows you to temporarily shut down grass discharge when the operator chooses.
Is a chute blocker the same as a mulch kit?
No. A mulch kit, when installed, blocks off all side discharge and grass is discharged out of the back of the mower as the operator mows. A chute blocker differs, as the mower continues to use its side discharge for grass, but is able to be closed down as desired.
What is a Speedtrap Chute?
Speedtrap chute is a simplistic styled chute blocker that allows its operators to temporarily shut down discharge, and also deflect grass discharge variably at different angles, with the pull of a cable.
How does the Speedtrap Chute Blocker design differ from other brands of chute blockers on the market?
Speedtrap Chute’s design differs from the rest of the industry with its ultra simple construction and hand operated cable, eliminating as many wearable components as possible, while still being able to do the job necessary in the field.
Operation/Use
How does the Speedtrap Chute work?
Speedtrap Chute blocker opens and closes via the cable attached to the steel chute plate. Pull the cable, while the chute is up in the resting position, and the chute will quickly close, pull it again and it will flip back up into resting position. Hold it in place, temporarily, to deflect as needed.
Does the Speedtrap use springs?
No, we eliminated as many wearable parts as we could to extend chute life, cut down on failures, and decrease owner input over the long haul. Also, the Speedtrap pivots open and closed freely, allowing the ability to deflect when needed. A spring closure would prevent this feature.
What holds the Speedtrap closed?
Most Speedtrap’s weigh in at 7-9 lbs. The weight of the steel, in the closed position, holds back most discharge under normal operating conditions. While doing a long pass fully closed, as discharge builds up under the deck, the Speedtrap will eventually “burp” a little out, and reclose itself.
I see the Speedtrap guys talk about deflecting, what is that exactly?
Speedtrap Chute deflection is a convenient feature that allows operators to control the precise angle that grass is discharged, by holding the chute cable manually open by hand. This is commonly used more than complete closures in many circumstances, due to less clippings piling up, and it yields a more even spread. With the Speedtrap held slightly open with the cable, the grass hits the plate, and deflects down at the corresponding angle at which the plate is held. Adjust the angle, as needed, for conditions.
Fall & Leaf Work
Will the Speedtrap help me to mulch up leaves?
The Speedtrap is a good tool for mulching leaves and will help contain discharge while you make your passes. Simply close the plate and rinse/repeat. Combine it with a set of mulching blades for better performance.
How will the Speedtrap help our crews during the Fall season?
Speedtrap Chute is a good tool for leaf work, but also installs and removes in seconds, allowing quick changes between discharge and bagging. This allows pivoting between job types without needing dedicated mowers.
Install/Fitment
Do I need to drill into my deck to install the Speedtrap?
No drilling is required with any of our chute kits.
We run multiple size zero turns in our fleet, are the chutes compatible with all of them?
Not exactly. Some are, and some are not. There are multiple lines that a single Speedtrap may fit. Toro Z Master 48/52/60”s and Exmark 48/52/60” Lazer Z’s can many times be switched out in your fleet, if you have a mower go down, or bring a new one on. Contact us directly for more details on cross fitting applications.
I run an older Exmark Lazer Z Triton deck, will the Speedtrap fit my mower?
No, the Speedtrap only fits Exmark’s Next Gen chassis from 2011-current.
